Happy Monday lovely Brides!
I’d like to take just a moment to introduce myself. I’m Sonja Stoces, and I’ve recently joined the Dreamcicle Studios Photography family. I’m thrilled to be part of this organization, and I look forward to
working with all of you beautiful brides. Kristi and I were reminiscing last week about her wedding, and she asked me to post this Monday’s blog from the Maid of Honor’s point of view. Here’s a little peek at what we experienced on Kristi’s wedding day!
Monday Motivation for Brides: Eat, Drink and be Married!
We’ve been talking about the importance of nutrition during the planning process. If you didn’t catch last week’s blog on great foods to incorporate into your diet, you can find it here. Nutrition and hydration are key not only during the planning process, but are OH so important for the day of your nuptials!
I was honored to have Kristi choose me as her MOH, and did we ever have a ton of fun! The entire planning process was done long distance as I still lived in Alaska at the time. It was hard to be so far away when my best friend was so stressed out, choosing flowers, colors, venue etc. But we made it through.
When the actual wedding day came, the stress level escalated – imagine that! We had so much running around to do, from one end of Las Vegas to other, I thought it would be impossible to accomplish all we needed in one short morning. It’s nearing the end of our errands, we had just had our hair done, and we’re in the car, Kristi, me and our two good friends Renie and Jane. If you’ve ever been to Vegas, you know what traffic is like on the strip. And we’re late. And yes, our very own Kristi had her very own Bridezilla moment, screaming out the window, veil streaming behind her, at the tourists to “MOVE, PEOPLE MOVE!!”
I wish I’d seen this article then, I might have recognized the signs. As we’re flying down the highway …. LATE …. Kristi is on the phone with the wedding planner. The first thing she was asked was “Have you had anything to eat? When is the last time you drank any water?” NONE of us had stayed hydrated, nor had we eaten that day. Needless to say, we were all a bit on edge. Apparently 80 mph on the freeway wasn’t fast enough for Jane as she tried to climb over the seat to take over the driving! Renie, bless her heart, trying to keep the peace the entire time – she’s our rock!
The first thing we did when we returned to the hotel was get Kristi a little snack and a great big drink. It did wonders to help soothe her jangled nerves and allow her to truly enjoy this special moment with her love. The ceremony was at the Ritz Carlton Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, Nevada, (now the Hilton). We walked down a path to the shore of the lake, complete with sand, leaving our shoes behind as we made our way barefoot to the altar. Even though she was nervous, Kristi was such a beautiful bride her husband to be couldn’t keep his eyes off her! They will celebrate their 5th anniversary as husband and wife in just a few short weeks.
So, dear MOH, the moral of this story ….. please make sure your Bride is eating good foods to give her energy and drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated on her wedding day. According to Web MD, you should try to drink at least half an ounce to an ounce for every pound you weigh. Being dehydrated puts added stress on your body – and the more stressed you are, the more likely you are to GET dehydrated! A vicious circle, and no bride needs MORE stress on her perfect day. Everything seems to look a little bit better and a little less insane when our bodies are properly fueled hydrated.
Until next time ~
Have a Dreamcicle Day!
