Happy Wednesday lovely Brides!
This week, we’ll wrap up Part 3 of a 3 Part -13 tip Series on how to find the perfect wedding gown. Our featured gown this week is from Elysa and Kyle’s wedding. We were so privileged to be part of their day and capture their images at Trilogy at Vistancia this spring (read about them here!). I absolutely fell in love with this gown. It was created by Alfred Angelo and is part of the Disney Princess Collection. This Cinderella gown is tulle and glitter net layered over taffeta. It is classic, elegant and sophisticated, just like our bride – the full skirt gave her that wonderful feeling of being Princess for the day. The jewel encrusted, strapless bodice features a sweat heart neckline which showed off Elysa’s beautiful shoulders and flawless skin. Kyle just couldn’t keep his eyes (or his hands for that matter) off of her! This, lovely brides, is what I would love to see happen for you on your wedding day!
Now, on to the rest of the tips!
13 Tips to Choose the Perfect Gown: Part 3 of 3
10. Follow Your Wedding Theme
If you fell in love with “The Great Gatsby” and are inspired to have a vintage wedding with 1920’s fashion—then choose a dress that matches that theme. As mentioned on the BeU blog, everything from intricate beading on dresses, to elaborate headpieces—the Great Gatsby look is uber popular. Capped sleeves and beautiful flowing chiffon skirts covered in sparkling crystals and light catching pearls glamorize the look even more. Whatever your theme is, don’t be afraid to create your dream day and incorporate your gown in making that vision a reality.
11. Don’t Forget Undergarments and Shoes!
It’s always a great idea to plan ahead and bring special new beautiful bras, Spanx or other undergarment items with you to try on gowns. While the stores usually do have some of these items for you to use, it’s always nice to have your own so you can feel your absolute best. Also, if you already have your wedding shoes, bring them! If not, bring shoes with the heel height that you think you might wear or that are close to the design that you have in mind. It helps you to get an overall vision of how it all comes together on wedding day. In addition, it’s a great idea to bring a barrette, a hair tie and hair brush so you can visualize different hair styles and what your hair will look like with the neckline and bodice of your gown.

12. The Buddy System
Do pick a friend or two to come along for your shopping excursion. Choosing a wedding gown can be a daunting task; positive reinforcement will help with the anxiety. But don’t bring an entourage to help you choose your bridal gown. All the voices will drown out the most important one – yours. No matter what dress you choose, it needs to reflect your style and taste.
13. ALL SALES ARE FINAL (Usually)
The last thing to consider is asking lots of questions and know the shop or boutique’s policies on returns and final sales. It’s always good to make an informed purchasing decision that will save you time and money later. Also, understand their policy on alterations. Are they included in the purchase price? What about the bustle? Will they train someone how to tie a corset style bodice? This is an important tip, dear brides–I had the misfortune of not having someone trained on how to tie the back of my gown and rather than appear to look like an hourglass from behind… well, let’s just say I’m glad I didn’t know just how ridiculous it actually looked at the time or I may have had a last minute breakdown!
How will you know you’ve found the perfect wedding gown? EVERYONE says that it’s something that just happens and it really is. Most brides know the second they put the gown on! They feel the magic. But not every bride has an “ah-ha” moment and that’s okay. When you’ve found a gown that makes you smile and you feel like your best self in it, then you’ve nailed it. Buy it and don’t look back!
Happy dress shopping!
