Happy Monday Beautiful Brides!
I know your week is packed, but I wanted to take just a moment of your time to share a little Monday Motivation. I am so thrilled to be a part of your day, and want to help you stay gorgeous throughout the planning process. It’s crazy, busy, insane, and stressful to plan a wedding and can take a toll on not only your emotional well being but on your skin as well! As a Phoenix Wedding Photographer, I’ve seen the damage our sun can do. Add that to the stress of planning a wedding (and we all know that stress can do a serious number on even the most beautiful skin) and we risk having an unhappy bride. I want you to look your absolute best on your wedding day, and to help you out, I’ve dug up some info on great foods to keep your skin smooth and youthful. This means fabulous images on your wedding day!
5 GREAT FOODS FOR FABULOUS LOOKING SKIN ON YOUR WEDDING DAY!
STRAWBERRIES!
Who doesn’t love delicious, juicy strawberries? They are rich in flavor and vitamin-C. According to research in 2007 from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, vitamin C may prevent wrinkles and age – related dryness. It helps to produce collagen, a protein that keeps your skin firm and young looking, exactly what we want to see when photographing our lovely brides walking down the aisle. You can find vitamin C in strawberries, oranges, papaya, broccoli, and red bell peppers. Add some of these into your daily routine to keep your skin firm and possibly ward off the damages of UV rays at the same time!
SOY
Isoflavones – such a complicated word, but another little tidbit that may help preserve that all important collagen, keeping your skin smooth and wrinkle free. And what bride doesn’t want to be wrinkle free? Isoflavones are believed to help prevent collagen from breaking down. They also act as antioxidants, cleaning up the free radicals from sun exposure. You can find them in tofu, soymilk and edamame. These can easily be added to your diet – why not a delicious shake in the morning made with soymilk? Snack on edamame pods, or have a vegetarian night substituting tofu for your meat.
WATERMELON
Want to keep your skin smooth and protect yourself from sunburn? Lycopene may just be the answer. It’s what makes watermelon pink, tomatoes red, and carrots orange. The European Journal of Pharmaceutic and Biopharmaceutics published a study in 2008 that found higher concentrations of lycopene resulted in smoother skin and helps prevent reddening of the skin when exposed to the sun. Sounds like a win-win! You can find lycopene in tomatoes, carrots, pink grapefruit and watermelon.
SPINACH
While I don’t find spinach quite as exciting as strawberries and watermelon, there are definitely some benefits to adding it to your diet. Spinach contains lutein, which behaves much like lycopene, helping to protect your skin from UV ray damage. You, my beautiful bride, already know that the sun can age your skin quickly. I’m not staying to give up your favorite sunscreen and moisturizer, but why not protect your skin from the inside out as well? You can find lutein in kale, spinach, corn, egg yolks and summer squash. Sounds like a yummy salad for lunch!
SALMON
By now, most of us have heard about the benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids. Did you know that in addition to preventing cancerous tumor growth, they can also keep your skin looking fresh and beautiful? Beautiful images are what we pride ourselves on, and we want yours to be stunning! Add 2 servings a week of fish such as salmon, tuna, trout or sardines to see the benefits of Omega -3.
I found this great info in an article by Registered Dietician Brierly Wright in the August, 2010 edition of Eating Well magazine.
Til Next Time!
